20 Babies BALTIC Print

In September 2021, 20 babies came to Baltic!

All 20 babies had been born in lockdown where the parents' experience of giving birth and parenthood was wildly different to pre pandemic parenting. The Learning team at Baltic came up with a project to bring 20 families with pandemic babies to Baltic so they could socialise, meet you new people and get used to being out of the house. This massively positive experience led to collaborations with artist Josie Brookes and the Mayborn Group leading to the creation of a Tommee Tippee Sippee Cup, and illustrated baby book and now this, a beautiful print of Baltic with a whole new spin. Brookes uses colour, collage and print making techniques to give her work a texture and vibrancy and she's brought to life a building that can sometimes seem imposing and celebrated the accessibility and the friendliness Baltic actually values. Sometimes, out of the darkest times, lovely things can happen including friendship, understanding and joyful illustration. Find out more about the project here.
