' I had some money, I made the best paintings ever. I was completely reclusive, worked a lot, took a lot of drugs. I was awful to people.'
In an amazingly short space of time, US artist Jean-Michel Basquiat went from homeless graffiti artist to an internationally acclaimed artist exhibiting in New York galleries and calling artists Andy Warhol and Keith Haring friends. This contemporary print by Left Hand Gang uses photography and graphic style to capture Basquiat's early graffiti life in the tag SAMO and his later successes including wearing an Armani suit to paint in. There is also a look in Basquiat's eyes that alludes to his personal struggles leading to a heroin overdose at the awfully young age of twenty seven. A beautiful and powerful print and a wonderful way of owning a part of pop art history. (Unless you can afford an original Basquiat of course..)
A3 sized limited edition print, signed and numbered by Left Hand Gang.
