UK artist Phil Collins uses photography and film to great effect by visiting places in the world undergoing some kind of conflict and finding a common interest which goes beyond political, cultural and social divide.
In The World Won't Listen, Collins brings the seminal Smith album to various places around the globe and invites people to come and sing Karaoke to their favourite Smith song. And come they do, to share their love of Morrissey and the Smiths, to find come kind of personal expression or just to do something out of the ordinary in an extraordinary place. The footage is personal, humorous and touching and this book, to accompany the exhibition, captures the build up and execution perfectly and also includes an interview with Collins about his process.
Hardcover. Phil Collins is exhibiting at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art as part of the Great Exhibition of the North.
