“When I first went to The Station in April 1985, I was amazed by the energy and feel of the place. It was totally different, run for and by the people who went there. Every Saturday that I could, I photographed there". Chris Killip

Opened in 1981, the Station was an underground music venue which became a haven for punks and other sub-cultures of the time. Killip discovered the place in 1985 and began to take photographs every Saturday, cataloguing the energy and outlet for the disaffected youths of the north east suffering high unemployment and poverty. The collected images were discovered by Killip's son some thirty years later and have been put together in this powerful photography book. An important snap shot of Youth history from a specific point in time.

The large, hardback book features 70 photographs over 80 pages.

Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art presents a full career retrospective by one of the UK's most important and influential post-war documentary photographers, Chris Killip (1946 - 2020). Chris Killip, retrospective is open from 1st April 2023 - 3 September 2023.
