George Shaw is a Turner Prize nominated artist known for his suburban paintings, his naturalistic style and use of Humbrol enamel paints in his work. He was born in Coventry in 1966 and his work reflects his surroundings growing up in the Tile Hill area in the 1970's with images of the mundane and everyday which have struck a resonance with the viewer provoking memories of childhood and the past. This hand coloured lithograph explores both of Shaw's most revisited themes, the every day and nature. Here the power of majesty of the tree is juxtaposed with the scrappy bit of string, tied there by local kids and used as a rope swing with no respect for the tree it hangs from.
