‘I didn’t set out to be the photographer of the English de-Industrial Revolution. It happened all around me during the time I was photographing’ Chris Killip, 2019
Chris Killip (1946-2020) was one of the most important photographers of the 1980s specializing in social documentaries of the more regionalised communities. Killip would get in among the action and the photos make you feel you're a part of the image whether that's on a beach, city or mosh pit. Killip was a familiar sight at the underground punk clubs here in Gateshead and captured the visceral nature of the gigs as only someone can when they're in the thick of it with a camera. This is a beautiful coffee table book full of photos both well known and unknown and is a must for people fascinated with the 1980's. Killip's work will be exhibited at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art on 1st April 2023.
Hard back book.
