George Shaw is a Turner Prize nominated artist known for his suburban paintings, his naturalistic style and use of Humbrol enamel paints in his work. He was born in Coventry in 1966 and his work reflects his surroundings growing up in the Tile Hill area in the 1970's with images of the mundane and everyday which have struck a resonance with the viewer provoking memories of childhood and the past. His more recent paintings of trees and the natural world are nearer to the estates he grew up in than the image suggests highlighting that no matter how mundane and concrete landscapes humans can create, the beauty of nature prevails.
