After Braque: Playing Concertina in My Studio (With Hanging Construction), 2016
This exclusive lightjet print has been produced to coincide with the major exhibition at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art by renowned Canadian artist Rodney Graham as part of the BALTIC Edition collection.
Graham has made a colour version of his exhibited work of the same name - a photo image of the artist playing a small accordion in his studio. This image is part of an ongoing series of Lightbox works currently exhibiting at the gallery where Graham plays different roles and characters. Here Graham plays the part of a musician (as well as being a celebrated musician and performer) and uses an image of modernist French artist George Braque playing the concertina in an archive photo from 1912 as a source point.
'Rodney Graham's experimental and adventurous practice has thrilled and confounded audiences for more than 30 years. With one eye on art history and another on pop culture, Graham creates art that asks questions of us. Graham's works have conceptual and literary origins, from his films to large tableau-like photographic works. Graham's practice is continually reinventing itself, questioning and offering up numerous versions of our possible selves.' BALTIC Curator Alessandro Vincentelli
Born in British Columbia, Canada, 1949, Graham exhibited widely throughout North America and Europe for more than thirty years.
