Max Machen Les Alpes Print

Welcome to the wonderful print world of Max Machen who creates images of happiness, colour and general chaos. Now based in Glasgow, Machen is originally from Yorkshire though his illustrations take us from the kitchen to the living room, down the Alps to a dance in Cowboy country! An illustrator who is passionate about his work without taking himself too seriously.

As one of the newest makers we’ve welcomed into BALTIC Shop, we asked Max to tell us a bit about himself:

‘I’m Max, a freelance illustrator and printmaker currently scribbling away up in sunny Edinburgh. I’m originally from Yorkshire and studied illustration at Cambridge school of art where I discovered my love of screen printing! I’ve always enjoyed drawing and painting but the restrictions that came with the way I screen printed evolved into my bold, visually witty style. I find inspiration in a nice strong cup of coffee and a long walk, that tends to be when I have my best ideas. The main influences in my work are French Artists Raymond Savignac and Hervé Morvan who created beautiful illustrated advertisement posters.

I live living up North it’s the perfect combination of lovely countryside and great cities at your finger tips. The people are also super friendly!’
