Northern Makers - Meet OR8Design
Sheffield born Owen Findley is OR8Design, a name based on the South Yorkshire greeting which puzzles so many people not from that area – You Orate? Findley is not only influenced by his birth place but also travel, especially the joy of getting into his camper van and just driving until it’s time to camp. OR8Designs prints, badges and patches celebrate both the simplicity and power of the great outdoor from illuminating dramatic skies to the importance of a coffee pot on a burner on a cold winter’s morning. Now living in Leeds, Findley still takes time to head to the neighbouring stunning countryside to gain inspiration and rejuvenation from nature and the joy of being outdoors.
Owen writes about his inspiration and ethos behind his work..
'Our prints are inspired by the great outdoors; the sense of joy and relaxation to get away from the city, away from technology and to embrace nature without distractions. Whether that’s a roaring fire in a peaceful cottage, ramblings through the open moors or getting lost in our local woodland, these prints intend to capture the joy of getting away from it all.
All prints are screen printed by hand in the OR8DESIGN home studio in Leeds (UK). Each print is created colour-by-colour, print-by-print giving each a unique feel that other printing methods don’t offer. This is a time consuming process, but we think it is worth it for the final results.'
