This new exhibition being held at INNSiDE Newcastle is primarily based on two of Turrell's main influences - music and football.
"Off the Record, On the Pitch" is a dynamic immersive space where the worlds of music and football collide through the lens of collage. The works bring together a vibrant mix of large-scale works, combining vintage football imagery, punk aesthetics, bold typography and layered textures that reference everything from match-day fanzines to classic album covers.
The exhibition is split into two interconnected zones:
1 The Sonic Side - A celebration of music's raw energy, featuring collages that deconstruct iconic record sleeves, gig posters and lyrics, fused with personal nostalgia and cultural movements. There are neon highlights, DIY cut-and-paste elements and nods to the visual language of rave flyers and hip-hop mixtapes.
2 The Beautiful Game - Football's rich visual history is reimagined through a remix of archival photos, ticket stubs and old-school kit graphics. The works will reflect tribalism, passion and DIY spirit of the terraces with references to everything from 90's Serie A aesthetics to underground fanzines.
